Alim is a drugstore of sort. Its leaves, when ground with ginger, serve as an ointment to treat dandruff and flaking skin; when dried and crushed, it may be taken with cold water to treat constipation, tuberculosis, and chest pains. It is said to be powerful enough to shock worms out of infested bodies. Its tiny clustered fruit is a favorite food for many bird species.
