(En)Gendering Music aims to foster awareness about the role of gender in diverse, intersecting fields of music in order to educate music practitioners about gender-related issues that may pervade their day-to-day lives. It is a component of the 2024 Saliksikhay Research, Innovation, Development, Extension Festival, a celebration of UP Diliman’s research, creative work, and extension culture taking place from September 19 to October 14 2024.
The workshop consists of two sessions. Three faculty members from the College of Music—Maria Christine Muyco, Crystal Rodis-Concepcion, and Arwin Tan—will share their experiences in the morning session. In the afternoon session, resource persons from the UP Diliman Gender Office will synthesize and connect the previous discussions to discourses about SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression), anti-sexual harassment, and the law.
(Note that these discussions are sensitive. We ask that you approach the event with respect and empathy.)
We encourage you to take part in this rare occasion. Join us in creating a space that recognizes gender diversity through the unique experiences of people deeply engaged in music. We hope to see you there!
